In xxxx master welder 'Blackie' Green took his wife's car and gave it a full 6 inch body section. This means all door, fenders, hood, trunk, including all inner panels and firewall, have had a 6 inch horizontal slice removed from them and then have been fitted together again.
Passing through several owners until xxxx the present owners bought the car as a shell. No running gear, no interior and not a lot of anything. The basic section was sound. Additional body work was done which included: rolling the front and rear pans, adjusting the front wheel wells, hood and trunk were decked and the body seams filled.
In xxxx apricot metal flake was applied. At the time this was only the second car in Canada to be metal flaked. 24 gallons of clear lacquer and hundreds of hours of hand sanding completed the job.
Next was the running gear. Wanting a dependable runner a brand new (right out of the crate) Chevy 307 was dropped in. The Hurst mounts allowed a straight bolt in. The motor is completely stock except for the custom spaghetti headers. It is bolted to a dependable power glide and comes with a spare 400 transmission.
The undercarriage consists of reverse front spindles, dropped drag link, shortened steering column and a shortened Chevy drive shaft. The gas tank was removed and a new tank fitted over the rear axle hump.
Wanting something totally different but functional for the interior four custom made rolled & pleated bucket seats were installed. Note that the upholstery extends from the parcel shelf through to the firewall, including under the front seats, leaving little room for the Cadillac carpet. To complete the interior a modified dash with Stewart-Warner gauges and rear swing quarter windows, a rare find, were installed.
It has won 60 plus awards from Oregon to Alberta including People's Choice, Best Custom and Best Interior.
